it's a dream wedding come true..

I plan on being sound asleep at 4am tomorrow morning, but many will be anxiously awake to watch the royal wedding. Can you believe it's almost here? It's probably going to be the biggest wedding since...well, since Princess Diana and Prince Charles wed in 1981. That may have not been the best marriage in the world- but it was a pretty amazing wedding. So following in family tradition, William and Kate's wedding should be just as spectacular, if not more. It's sort of funny how people all over the world are in awe for a wedding of two people that none of us even really know, but there's so much hype around it that we can't help but watch.

Prince Charles & Princess Diana.

All of this wedding excitement made me think of other fabulous weddings we've seen in the past. Though many of them didn't live happily ever after, and some of them never actually happened, their fairytale weddings will remain memorable forever.

Barbie & Ken- one of their many marriages, and this is one couple that will last forever. Not sure what's up with the lavender suit though.

Elvis & Priscilla Presley- Married at the Aladdin Hotel in Las Vegas on May 1, 1967. The beginning of many infamous Vegas weddings..
John Lennon & Yoko Ono- Knee socks and sneakers? Too cute for words.
Elizabeth Taylor & Conrad "Nicky" Hilton- Liz's first wedding, with many more to come.

General Hospital's Luke & Laura- Most fabulous soap opera wedding. Ever.

Heidi & Spencer Pratt, aka Speidi- They may be the most annoying couple ever, but their wedding was pretty close to perfect. Minus any scripted drama that may have followed them down the aisle.
Zack & Kelly, Saved By The Bell- Everyone always knew these two would tie the knot. Even if it wasn't until ratings fell and their show got cancelled.

So Kate! If you decide to change your mind about your wedding dress at the last minute, then krispyfringe is here to the rescue! Okay, that's probably not going to happen, but if you- normal middle American woman, are looking for a gorgeous vintage wedding dress to wear on your big day then we can possibly help you too. Check out what we have available in our store and at Etsy.com right now:

1960s Vintage wedding gown, Ivory w/ all over lace. Sz XS or S. $275.
1960s Empire Waist Wedding Dress w/Ruffle Hem. Sz. S. $275

We also have a few more wedding dresses, as well as plenty of evening wear, spring hats, heels, and elegant gloves in stock in case the royal wedding inspires you for any spring/summer weddings you plan on attending soon.

it's never too early to start dreaming about summer..

Spring is officially here, which means it's almost Summer, which means it's almost your favorite or least favorite time of the year: Swimwear time! It's just about April, and if you live in Chicago you know that it's still a bit breezy here and wearing anything above the knees might feel like frostbite. So don't worry, you still have a bit of time to eat a few less chocolate bunnies and Easter eggs, and get that perfect swimsuit body you've been meaning to work on. Here are some vintage beauties to give you some inspiration:

Have you started your summer shopping yet? Krispyfringe has some amazing vintage swimwear available in case you're looking for something unique and not found in every department store you step your foot into....

Oscar de la Renta- black & white floral strapless one-piece

Super sexy violet & black leopard ruched one-piece

Itty bitty yellow terry cloth string bikini

Sailor striped navy one-piece with gold anchor button detailing

All swimsuits seen here (and more!) are available in store at krispyfringe, 4725 N. Damen Ave., and will be available on our Etsy page very soon!

krispyfringe needs your help!!

Hi guys!! We are SO excited here at the store because our lovely and talented co-owner and shoe cobbler Sara McIntosh is one of the final 12 contestants for Kenmore's new reality show, "So You Wanna Be A Designer" !!!!! (Yes, that is Kenmore, the brand that makes washing machines, but they're branching out these days) Anyway, the final cut will only be held with 6 contestants and the deciding factor will be determined by how popular one's Faceook page is, which is why we need your help! All you have to do is go here: and click on "LIKE" to like this page and help Sara and krispyfringe out! We would really, really, really, really appreciate it and we would love you forever (not that we don't already)

So you may be thinking "why should I help them?" or "what makes her such a great designer?" or "oh shut up already". Well, this show is going to be a great opportunity, not only for Sara, but also for krispyfringe, and for the Chicago fashion community. The winner of the competition receives $20,000 in cash to put towards their fashion line. This would help krispyfringe out tremendously because it would mean more great designs for you, our loving fans who like to look cute. Also, the winner gets a brand new Kenmore washer and dryer (which wash clothes and now totally makes sense on why they're sponsoring this competition).

Sara has been designing everything from shoes, to belt, to clothing, and she even helped design our fabulous store! She has more skills than you can imagine, and she can make nearly anything you ask her to.
You can check out her line of shoes, which she's been making by hand for over 30 years now, here: www.sarasshoes.com/

Aaaaaand you can check out these gorgeous suede zipper skirts that both her and our other co-owner, Kristy Kladzyk designed together here: at our Etsy page!

Sara is so full of creativity and passion, and we know that she would really kick butt in this competition. When something needs to be fixed, she always has a great idea on how to fix it. And when it's time to design or alter something, she's ready to do it and knows exactly what needs to be done. She's quick and can think on her feet, which is an essential quality needed for a competition like this. (for the audition she had to cut and sew a garment in 5 minutes!! Can you do that?)  http://www.facebook.com/?ref=home#!/pages/Support-Sara-McIntosh-to-be-on-So-You-Wanna-Be-A-Designer/151637244896764

So now that you know how wonderful Sara is, please "Like" her facebook page..it would mean the world to us!! And tell your friends!!!

vintage style parade..

Same as how trends have changed throughout the years, the shows that present them have evolved as well. Fashion shows today are such a bigger spectacle than they were in the past. The lights, the music, the models, the venue, and the rest of the planning adds up. According to New York Magazine, the 2009 Victoria's Secret fashion show cost $10 million to produce. It's a big investment to put into 15 minutes of bliss, but in the end it's totally worth it.

Yet things weren't always this way. Fashion shows, or 'fashion parades', were not quite as big of an event as they are today, but fashion was still very much appreciated and admired. Here are some lovely vintage videos of fashion shows from the past:

 1956 Fashion Parade

"Leather.. to fill a feminine wish for something new and different"

Mid 1950's Eveningwear Fashion Show
"That little thing? Oh it's nearly a sable jacket.."

Qui ĂȘtes-vous, Polly Maggoo? (1960's Avantgarde Fashion Show)

That last one is my favorite.. It's the opening scene from the film, Qui ĂȘtes-vous, Polly Maggoo? which is a documentary about a Brooklyn-born fashion model who lived in Paris in the 1960's. This scene features a fashion show where all of the unique looks are made of large pieces of sheet metal. Very unusual, but very interesting to see. Lady Gaga would've fit in perfect with it..

obligatory oscars post..

For most people, the only interesting thing about the Academy Awards is the fashion. What, or who, are all the stars going to wear to the awards? It's a huge deal, and at last it's finally over and done with. But here at Krispyfringe, we've picked some of our favorite looks from this year's show.

It may not be fair to name Anne Hathaway as this year's best dressed, with her 8 costume changes and all, but she did look flawless every single time.

Gorgeous.

On the red carpet:
Anne Hathaway in Valentino

Mila Kunis in Elie Saab
Amy Adams in L'Wren Scott
Halle Berry in Marchesa

Did all this Oscars excitement bring you disappointment in your own closet? No worries, because we put together some looks from our own collection for your next big event (or for a day of playing dress-up)

Gorgeous deep purple velvet gown, pink rhinestone gloves, silver handbag, silver heels
Elegant gloves are a great way to put some more glam in your evening look. The ones pictures are vintage Vera Vogue kidskin leather gloves, and we have them in various colors and lengths. Stop into the store to see our wide collection, or check out our Etsy page to see them as well. http://www.etsy.com/shop/krispyfringe

Cream satin tiered dress, tan and silver striped handbag, beige pointed toe heels

Black velvet & gold foil cocktail dress, black & pearl envelope purse, black & gold striped heels

Now that award season is finally over, we can now look forward to spring and summer fashions..
